PRS Updates

This page explains how to update your PRS to the latest version.

The latest PRS versions are:

PRS Client:	8.0.6
PRS Shared Data:	8.0.2
PRS Monitor:	8.0.0.3

PRS6 Users

If you are still on PRS version 6 or earlier you will need to migrate to version 7. This document explains how to perform the migration. To check your current version number select About PRS from the PRS Client Help menu.

Installing the Latest PRS Client

Version 8.0.6 of the PRS client is a recommended update for all PRS users (see the PRS version 8 web page for more information).

Instructions

Download the PRS Client Setup Wizard.
Run the downloaded prs2k_client_setup_806 Setup Wizard and follow the on-screen instructions.

Note

Unless you know exactly what you’re doing accept the setup wizard defaults, this ensures your newly upgraded client has the same settings as the previous version.
Client installation needs to be done from an administrative account — the installer will warn you if you are not currently logged on to an administrative account.
There is no need to uninstall the previous PRS version before installing the new version. Uninstalling the PRS Client will reset local (non site-wide settings) to their default values if the PRS Client is uninstalled which is probably not what you want.

Installing the Latest PRS Shared Data

Version 8.0.2 of the PRS shared data is an optional update for existing PRS version 7 users.

Important

All PRS Clients need to be upgraded to version 8 prior to upgrading the shared database to version 8 (see the PRS version 8 web page for more information).

To check your current shared data version select About PRS from the PRS Client Help menu.

Please read the PRS 8 upgrade FAQ before proceeding.

Download the Shared Database Install wizard.
Run the PRS 8.0.2 Shared Database Install Wizard by double-clicking the previously downloaded prs2k_data_setup_802.exe Shared Data Install Wizard.
Ask all users to close all open copies of the PRS Desktop Client.
Open the PRS Monitor program — you will find it in the Programs section of the Windows Start Menu under PRS 2000 (it’s called PRS Monitor and has a binoculars icon).
Execute the PRS Monitor Tools→Upgrade Database command, enter 8.0.2 when prompted for an upgrade version number.
The upgrade will now proceed silently and may take a while, please wait for the Upgrade has successfully completed prompt before doing anything else.

Note

It’s easier if you work from a machine that already has the PRS installed, this way the Shared Database Install Wizard will be able to figure out where the current shared PRS database resides.
The PRS Shared Database Install procedure should only be run once — you don’t need to run it from every PC that uses the PRS.

Reinstalling the PRS Runtime

Note	The PRS Runtime is installed automatically when the PRS Client is installed from CD-ROM for the first time so you don’t normally need to install or reinstall it manually.
